Equity and Social Justice in Education MA Admissions (ELSIT)

Application Deadline

  • For Fall Admissions, May 1st (If weekend then the next business day).
  • For Spring Admissions, November 1st (If weekend then the next business day).

Program Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

  • 3.0 GPA in the last 60 semester units

  • Department evaluators may request to interview applicants when deemed necessary

How to Apply


Step 1: Application to Division of Graduate Studies  

You must first apply to the university through the Division of Graduate Studies. If you are a US resident follow the Domestic Students procedure. If you are a non-US resident follow the International Students procedure.

1. Apply to graduate study through SF State's online application system (this will link you to Cal State Apply). The Office of Graduate Admissions no longer accepts paper applications.The application fee is 55.00 USD and we recommend that you pay online by credit card at the moment you submit your application.

2. Send the Division of Graduate Studies the following:

  • 2 copies of official transcript(s) from every College or University attended
  • $55.00 application fee by check or money order if you did not pay online by credit card. Please make check or money order payable to San Francisco State University.

Step 2: Application to Program Department

You must also apply directly to the specific department within the Graduate College of Education for this program.

Applicants to this program must submit the following:

  • ELSIT Department Application Form

  • Two letters of reference from professors, employers, or other people you have worked with on a professional basis
  • One set of transcripts, copies are acceptable, from all colleges and universities attended including SFSU, both undergraduate and graduate
  • Statement of Purpose outlining the reasons for wanting to pursue a degree and/or credential in the selected program
  • If you are applying for the Preliminary Administrative Services Credential, you must submit a copy of your valid California Basic Teaching Credential, CBEST Score, and one letter must be from school site Principal
  • If you are applying for the Professional Administrative Services Credential, you must submit a copy of your valid Preliminary Administrative Services Credential
  • Program Advisors and Evaluators may contact students for interviews
