At age 97, alum Olwen Peterson supervises 56 volunteers and works three half-days a week processing books and assisting with book sales at the Rohnert Park-Cotati Library
“Many of the older folk come to check out books as this is probably the only place where they have personal contacts and the only time people get to mingle with others,” Olwen said.
The Friends of the Library organization is near and dear to Olwen’s heart. This non-profit volunteer organization is dedicated to bringing the magic of books to everyone by supporting the library and its programs.
Through the sales of used books donated by the community, they provide funding for materials and programs not otherwise available through the library system. Peterson is extremely proud of the fact the Friends of the Library secured an area in the library that was made into a teen spot and was all funded by the money that came from having the book sales.
