Department of Elementary Education (EED)
The Department of Elementary Education prepares educators to teach and become leaders in culturally and linguistically diverse schools. Our vision is to create and advocate for educators to develop their pedagogy with caring, critical and culturally responsive lenses. We apply theories that guide our practices on the principles of teaching for equity and breaking barriers that exclude under-represented communities.
Department of Equity, Leadership Studies, and Instructional Technologies (ELSIT)
The Department of Equity, Leadership Studies, and Instructional Technologies (ELSIT) is dedicated to addressing some of the oldest, most complex, and persistent challenges in education—power, inequality, leadership, technology, and learning. Our department offers five different Master of Arts degree programs; a Tier 1 Administrative Services credential program; and a variety of undergraduate courses and programs, including the Step to College Program.
Department of Secondary Education (SED)
The Department of Secondary Education prepares reflective practitioners and leaders with strong grounding in equity and social justice to work in our public schools to inspire all their students to learn. We engage single subject teachers, present and future, in studying and supporting the learning of all students. We provide clinical opportunities for learning and practice research-based methods for teaching adolescents growing up in our urban communities.
Department of Special Education (SPED)
The Department of Special Education at San Francisco State University offers programs that prepare special educators and professionals to serve people with disabilities of all ages in today’s increasingly multicultural and multilingual society. Candidates seeking careers in programs for people with disabilities in schools, clinics, hospitals and community agencies will find a range of options at SF State.
Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (SLHS)
