To All Credential Candidates: Free Exams

You are eligible for a fee waiver for the CBEST, CSET, RICA, edTPA, and CalAPA. Now is the time to take the exams you still need for your credential.

IMPORTANT: Do not wait for your transcripts to be reviewed or for new regulations to pass: Take the CSET now while it is free.

Background

The California State Budget signed in June 2022 included the approval of the California Educator Exam and Performance Assessment fee waivers.  This means that California Educator Exam and Performance Assessment fees for the CBEST, CSET, RICA, edTPA and CalAPA will be waived for candidates as of 7/1/2022 through 6/30/2023, or until funds are used.

How to get the Fee Waiver

When you register for your exam in the Pearson registration system, you will see the fee waiver option available beginning in early August. Eligible candidates who have already registered for these exams beginning 7/1/2022 will be provided information about refunds in early August.

If you have your Preliminary Credential but still need exams

If you earned your Preliminary Multiple Subject, Preliminary Single Subject, Preliminary Education Specialist, or Certificate of Eligibility/Preliminary Administrative Services credential under the Covid-flexibilities route without passage of the RICA, edTPA or CalAPA, you are eligible for the fee waiver until 6/30/2023, or until funds are used.

If you are waiting to apply for your credential due to exams

If you have not been able to apply for your Preliminary credential because you have not completed the CBEST and/or CSET, you are eligible for the fee waiver until 6/30/2023, or until funds are used. Now is the time to complete these requirements while they are free, and to apply for your credential.
